Athlete Springboard member Andrew McGill has broken the Scottish native record in the men's 1,500 metres at the Scottish Athletics Indoor Invitational at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.

Andrew, who competes for Cambuslang Harriers and is representing Stride Athletics in his second season on the Athlete Springboard programme, set a new personal best of 3min 37.69sec in the race, finishing third behind Tonbridge Athletic Club's Jack Higgins (3:35.60) and St Albans AC's James McMurray (3:36.17).

His time is a new Scottish native record, meaning he is the quickest Scot to run the men's 1,500m in the country, in history.

This puts him sixth on the Scottish indoor all-time list behind Neil Gourley, Josh Kerr, Jake Wightman, Chris O'Hare and Andrew Butchart. He is 12th on the all-time list which includes outdoor performances.

His new time is just outside the Mile standard for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, with a 1,500m time required under 3:37.29.

"I didn't really have to do anything until the last 200. I wasn't planning to run this 15. I got injured over the summer, so I just wanted to get back running PBs.

"I did that in sub-8 (minutes) in the 3K, the Mile here didn't go so well because I was a bit unwell...so to get sub 3:40, it's pretty special because I never really thought I got going in summer.

"Just to have a race of this quality, literally on my doorstep as I'm here at least twice a week for the gym and the track, with my family watching, it's pretty special.

"I'm getting closer to that Commie Games standard so hopefully I can get myself a good race now off that and just hang on."
